Lol, I even called it, 'That was me on TV', bc it reminds me so much of the song. It was taken at the Cavern when they appeared before TV cameras for the first time.

I'm at work. I have no kids right now. It's supposed to be a prep, so I decided to kill some time.  I'm reading a great book called, 'Long and Winding Roads the Evolving Artistry of the Beatles'.  It's about their music as an evolving art form. Very interesting. He points out that for their entire career John and Paul's body of work revolved around the idea of nostalgia. Almost all of their work involved trying to evoke another time, by utilizing an older form of music. Also, a lot of their songs are sad. They deal with the loneliness of the human condition. And as time went by John and Paul explored this more and more. They invented "characters" like the "nowhere man" and "Eleanore Rigby" etc. All of these characters had one thing in common. They were lost, lonely and sad in some way. They were failures. He says that 'Yesterday' was the turning point in their career. It was the point of no return regarding how they were perceived. From that time on, they would forever be regarded as real artists.

What is interesting about these scholarly books on The Beatles and their music, is that the authors exclusively site John and Paul as the driving creative force in the group. In light of the recent discussions about Phillip Norman's attitude toward Paul, this is important to know. Every scholarly book I've read on the group acknowledges Paul as a driving creative force. It seems to me that the intelligent people who know their stuff about the group's music, know that it was John and Paul not just John, like the less informed people seem to think. That's why, if you want to know what is being said about their musical contributions it's important to read books like this one and Tim Riley's 'Tell Me Why'. Also Ian Macdonald's, 'Revolution in the Head'. The problem with the last one however, is that Macdonald doesn't like a lot of the group's music. He's highly critical.  When he likes something though, his praise is overflowing. But he is very choosy with his praise. And Riley lets his personal feelings show too much which I can't stand. His knowledge about their personal relationships with each other is very limited AND WRONG. And unfortunately he perpetuates his lack of knowledge in his book.  He shood have stuck with what he knows. The music.  Anyway, this book  I'm reading now is something to check out.  It is the best book I've read on the group's music, bc the author doesn't let his personal bias show. He sticks to the music. And he loves all of it.  I can't remember the author's name and like I said I'm at work so I don't have the book with me.  I will be making posts about it in johnheartpaul when I get some time.

But I never realized how sad so much of John and Paul's music is, until this guy pointed it out.

[Current Music |no music at work]

I am at work. Right now the kids are at recess so I have time to write. It will be an easy day.  But easy days are also boring. At least I'm making money.  My 15 year old is home and finished with school. My 12 year old is almost finished.  I am annoyed bc I encountered some unfriendliness a little while ago. I hate snobs. I can't elaborate bc I am not on my own pc and I'm suddenly paranoid.
